Innovate, Invest, Inspire: Driving Private Sector Partnerships for Ocean Action in Small Island Developing States

??????, 12 June 2025 - 8:45am to 10:00am

2025 UN Ocean Conference Side Event

Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are on the frontline of ocean-related challenges, including climate change, marine biodiversity loss, and sustainable fisheries management. Given their economic reliance on marine resources and the blue economy, SIDS require innovative, cross-sectoral partnerships to drive sustainable ocean action. The private sector has a crucial role to play in delivering investment, technology, and business-driven solutions to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 and the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS).

The SIDS Global Business Network (SIDS-GBN), led by UN-OHRLLS, facilitates collaboration between governments, businesses, and civil society to foster resilient and sustainable economies in SIDS. This side event will explore opportunities to enhance private sector engagement in ocean governance and investment, drawing on commitments and discussions from relevant ocean action panels at the 2025 UN Ocean Conference. It will also serve as a steppingstone towards the 2026 SIDS Global Business Forum in the Maldives, where ocean-related private sector partnerships are expected to take center stage in advancing sustainable blue economy solutions for SIDS.
