    Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries

    Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) are locked out: with no direct territorial access to the sea, they struggle with international trade, connectivity, and economic development.

    Cut off from the global marketplace and without the means to develop adequate transport and logistics infrastructure, landlocked developing countries facing unique and significant challenges in achieving the sustainable development goals.

    The upcoming Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries opens an opportunity to explore meaningful partnerships to unlock the potential of landlocked developing countries.

    Innovative solutions, strategic partnerships, and increased investment can help to address these challenges and unlock the full potential of these nations.

  • Lusaka, Zambia ¨C The 3rd LDC Future Forum, held from April 1-3, 2025, in Zambia, brought together global leaders, policymakers, and experts to address the urgent need for resilience in the world¡¯s 44 Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Under the theme of enhancing resilience, the forum emphasized innovative financing, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable infrastructure, circular economy and multi-stakeholder partnerships to combat systemic shocks.

The United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) supports groups of vulnerable countries in the United Nations system. The 44 Least Developed Countries, 32 Landlocked Developing Countries and 39 Small Island Developing States have their own special challenges.
